Consideration of an Existing Breed CDHPR Letter of Intent Requirements

The Canine Developmental Health and Performance Registry (CDHPR) has secured a unique agreement with United Kennel Club, Inc., in so much that dog breeds successfully developed through the CDHPR may yield dogs that could be considered eligible for enrollment into UKC registration and recognized as purebred. Any party interested in pursuing acceptance of their existing breed with UKC must first enroll into the Existing Breed Division of the CDHPR.

To be considered for enrollment into the Existing Breed Division of the CDHPR, an organization must first submit a Letter of Intent that must include each heading listed below, (Ex; "Introduction of the Existing Breed"), listed in the same order as they appear on this instruction sheet, and all information requested under that section (Ex; Synopsis of the breed’s history).

A. Introduction of the Existing Breed

    1. Brief synopsis of the breed’s history and a list of breeds originally used to develop this breed.

    2. Complete contact information for all known clubs/registries currently supporting the development of this breed.

    3. Estimated number of dogs that have been produced through all existing breed clubs.

    4. Copy of established breed standard (as available).

B. Purpose of the Existing Breed
    1. Functions of this Existing Breed.

    2. Identify into which of the eight Breed Group categories this Existing Breed would qualify and discuss how this Existing Breed is unique from the other breeds already recognized within the given Breed Group.

C. Plan of Development for the Existing Breed
    1. Many Existing Breeds require assistance in developing a sufficient number of dogs in order to be considered a truly new breed. Identify your organization’s plans to increase awareness and interest in this Existing Breed and any plans to stimulate overall growth in the number of dogs in the breed.

    2. Discuss any obstacles you foresee as possibly hindering the development or growth of this Existing Breed. Please be honest in identifying any such concerns so the CDHPR Approval Committee can consider all facets associated with accepting your proposed plan. Discuss any possible solutions to these obstacles.

D. Closing Comments
    1. Provide any additional comments or issues the CDHPR Approval Committee should consider while examining your Letter of Intent and the validity of your plan.

Mail your completed Letter of Intent to: CDHPR PO Box 9, Portage, MI 49081-0009. For any questions about the CDHPR or submitting a Letter of Intent please visit www.cdhpr.com or call 269.381.2183.
